What is PBIS?

ABOUT PBIS

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports aims to improve student academic and behavior outcomes while ensuring all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioral practices and interventions possible.

PBIS is not a curriculum, intervention, or practice; it is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students.   Much of this model of discipline requires the belief that discipline is teaching and learning at its core.  Data regarding student discipline needs to be carefully tracked and students struggling with discipline need to be managed in a thoughtful and responsive approach.  In many settings throughout the building such as cafeteria, restrooms, hallways and classrooms, expectations are posted.  Expectations should be posted and regularly reviewed to provide a united front across every classroom and area of the school.
